Getting rid of ants naturally

Ants have a very well-developed sense of smell, which means that certain smells will deter ants quite effectively:

  • Cinnamon oil - You can either use ground cinnamon to leave at entrances or you can mix ½ teaspoon of cinnamon essential oil to one cup water. Soak a cotton ball in the oil and leave at ant entrances.
  • White vinegar - Mix equal parts white vinegar to water and mix with an essential oil of your choice. Add the solution to a spray bottle and spray where you see an ant trail. Wipe down the area after an hour.
  • Lemon juice - Rub lemon juice on areas where the ants tend to enter. Use sparingly every few days to keep ants away.
  • Peppermint - You can either grow peppermint plants in your garden, sprinkle dried peppermint around the doors and entryways, or add 10 drops of essential peppermint oil to 1 cup water and spray where the ants are present.

Deterring ants with talcum powder

Talc or talcum is an ingredient used in baby powder. It is very effective in deterring ants in a non-toxic way. The talc affects the ants' sense of touch, and that's why they will avoid any contact with it. Simply sprinkle some baby powder wherever you find ants, as well as where you suspect they enter your house.
